M60 Safety Record

1st July 2009: Added this evening is the text appearing in the Guardian Online edition and leading the front page on 2nd July are rumours of transport cuts. Although mostly about rail issues there is reference to the roads programme and the hard shoulder running issue. the article is reproduced in full. The page will be removed if this is not substantiated by other sources on 2nd July.

26th June 2009: Two items added today, firstly the Highways Agency response to one resident's letter. Has anyone else had one of these. Also an extract article from the Times 25th June 2009. Only pasted here because it has some relevance for now, but likely to add a press extracts page. Does anyone want to scan the press for relevant articles to do with transportation.

14th May 2009: Some small changes to links have been made today and a cross section of the motorway between j14 and j13 has been added.

3rd May 2009: Maps from junction 12 to junction 15 are available now through the M60maps pages

23rd April 2009: A template letter is now available HERE to cut and paste into your usual document template or email template. Please personalise the letter to your requirements.

14th April 2009: A new page signposting readers to the safety information provided by the Greater Manchester Transport Unit.

14th April 2009: The North West Transport Roundtable has added its weight behind the local campaign by putting forward a challenging submission to the Highways Agency. It tells the HA that its consultation "contravenes everyone of the Treasury's Green Book recommendations on how government bodies should conduct public coonsultations". It goes on to say that Government's own guidelines say that providing extra highway capacity as a solution to traffic problems should be the last option - after all others have been exhaustively examined. The scheme itself ignores the study completed in 2003 which promoted better and safer pedestrian and cycling access at junction 13 with improved public transport before any road building could happen.

10th April 2009: Worsley and Boothstown's Transportation Task Group has added support to the community's concerns about the M60 widening proposals. In the vacuum left by inadequte doumentation of the Highways Agency's scheme, it has decided to publish relevant documentation on its www.wbttg.com website. Last year it decided to publish the background documentation for the Manchester Congestion Charge debate as it was not being promoted through a single website that was not part of the campaigning efforts themselves. It gains a considerable number of hits as local people were anxious to see how Worsley, Boothstown and Ellenbrook would be affected.
