These notes have recently been published as a group to assist in locating them on the DfT website.

 

LTN 1/97 Keeping Buses Moving (A guide to traffic management to assist buses in urban areas) (2 Mb)

This note includes advice on innovative techniques such as bus advance areas, bus priority in SCOOT and other signal control systems, camera enforcement of bus lanes, and the importance of decriminalised parking control in assisting the movement of buses. It also provides advice in relation to signing and road markings, road humps and traffic calming. (This advice, published in 1997, remains current and is now available online)

LTN 1/08 Traffic Management and Streetscape (2 Mb)

The note is to help all those involved in the design of traffic management measures to prepare schemes that consider and care for the streetscape. It assists hands-on designers, project enablers and decision makers alike. Specifically, it aims to enhance streetscape appearance by encouraging design teams to minimise the various traffic signs, road markings and street furniture associated with traffic management schemes.
