Worsley and Boothstown Transportation Task Group HOME
CONCLUSIONS
Both this survey and the Special Community Committee meeting in July 2007 demonstrate the concern about bus services in our area. In particular there is a need to examine in some detail the situation in Boothstown and Ellenbrook.
Boothstown is served by a long distance service (26) half hourly service between Leigh and Manchester and in the evening an hourly service is added (33) between Wigan and Manchester. Ellenbrook is served by a Wigan to Manchester half hourly service which runs until 7pm only.
Service 551/553 runs an hourly service between Leigh and Bolton via Boothstown and Newearth Road and the 654 runs an hourly service between Leigh and Bolton Hospital via Bridgwater Road and Newearth Road. The 654 does not run on Sundays or Public Holidays. Both the 551/553 and the 654 are fully supported by GMPTE. School Services run to local schools during the school term.
A new Primary Care Trust local centre (LIFT Centre) is opening later this year and promised to have a bus services within 20metres of its doors. It is far from clear whether there will be a bus service accessible to Worsley and Boothstown.
Both Ring and Ride and Local Link are services running in other parts of the city. We need to look at how our area could be enhanced by such services.
BRINGING ABOUT CHANGE.
Worsley and Boothstown Community Committee have agreed to set up a Transportation Task Group to consider what changes could be made to public transport provision in the area.
With the Community Committee’s agreement the Task Group will start its work immediately and will invite anyone who wishes to become involved in enhancing our public transport provision to contact us as soon as possible. A first meeting will be held around the end of February/beginning of March. The Task Group will probably not meet formally that often and much of the work will be tasked to the committee members to undertake.
The Community Committee Chairman has offered to meet with as many local groups as possible during February and March to invite comment and share knowledge, and encourage the groups to put public transport on their agendas. Also this Report and Transportation:The Big Picture will be provided to groups to expand their understanding of how everything works.
Other ways of promoting change to our public transport provision will be considered.
