APPENDIX FIVE

Selection of the answers to Question 24: Please tell us about any problem you have experienced with public transport (please identify the route or service number) – or problems that affect you as a car driver?

3)                 user of 12, 26 and 484 buses - not a regular enough service. We need service to Swinton more frequent. No direct service to < xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" prefix="st1" namespace="">Bolton.

4)                 Buses not turning up and having to wait another 1/2 hour. No bus direct to Bolton from this stop - we did have the 12 bus and 554 but these have gone off.

5)                 I am a truck driver and have not car, walk two miles to work each morning and same back, no bus route plus the bus service is none existent - a waste of time!

6)                 no.33 bus is the only one that was able to take you to hope hospital even if it meant changing at eccles. Now it turns around at Worsley. If bus services were more reliable (e.g.; 553) my husband would perhaps think of giving up driving- he is 87 years old

7)                 after 7.50 no bus to school until 8.40, 10 mins after school starts I would get to school 20 mins late - last school term 19 lates. Two buses to school, 26 and 553 but both come at the same time

8)                 buses not turning up. running the kids to school because their bus did not turn up

9)                 There are not enough public transports that are reliable.

10)             i find it hard to return home from work at Trafford centre as 126 stops at 6pm and doesn't run on Sundays at all. I find that services in my area are appalling as they do not run often enough and are being cancelled all the time. I find that different bus companies use the same bus route and I cannot use tickets on the different companies. I never know if I only need to buy a regular day saver or I will need an anybus

11)             Route number 12 - service withdrawn to Bolton, re-routed to Leigh, but who in their right mind would want to go to Leigh, a godforsaken place at the best of times. There is a number 26 service to leigh anyway - why 2 services from Moorside to the same place.

12)             12/26 unreliable services  Frequency not good at peak times 26 route through Swinton is unnecessary Congestion bad

13)             Bus to Salford goes to Swinton cannot get me to work on time in would have to get the one earlier. If I used the bus regularly it would add 2 and a half hours to my working day. No service to Ince - I work their 2 days a week

14)             No direct route to Hope Hospital 553 diverted to Bolton, not going up Bolton Rd to Farnworth - and hourly 26 either later or missing No 33 on Saturdays to Wigan, only Sundays and evenings

15)             Since the bus change there is little pleasure in going shopping usually having to change from route to another takes so much longer to get from A to B. There's no wonder the 553 is more often empty. I'm sure if it has to the old route near Farnwoth given 3 months trial would be most noticeable - let Bolton estates have their own route as before

16)             553 to Bolton is not frequent enough and route change is inconvenient

17)             Journeys to St Marys in Astley Change of timetable of 26 and removal of 33 morning service means now I can only get 553 at 7.51 am which isn't always reliable. No alternatives as next 26 is at 8.31am and school begins at 8.30am. I receive late marks at school even though been at bus stop 40 mins.

18)             Moorside Road - A580 traffic lights would ease congestion on Moorside road if they were staggered on the Moorside road operation.

19)             public transport is inconvenient and reliable, slow, dirty and dangerous. Not readily available for most areas

20)             recently I believe the buses have changed, and not for the better on the route I would take. The no.33 bus terminates at Worsley which means I would have to change and get onto the number 26 at Worsley. This would make my journey to work a lot longer and therefore I would probably use a taxi - not a bus, for quickness

21)             issues with number of shopping trolleys allowed on the bus - risk of accidents as aisles are so narrow. Issues with buses passing stops too early. Aggrieved at no.12 service being diverted to Leigh and incensed by no.554 service being taken off altogether

22)             553 no longer goes to Astley. Have to take a 26 to Boothstown or Leigh to get a service to Bolton.

23)             I rely on public transport. Since removing the 35 I have to get the 484 to Swinton and 36/37 to Manchester. Why can't the 26/12 be diverted up Moorside Road?

24)             12 to Bolton was a good service no longer available. 1 hour service to Bolton up Newearth Road is not reliable.

25)             Cancellation of 35 service Termination of 33 at Worlsey court house so that effectively a service cancelled (except late evening). Congestion used as an excuse for the cancellation of 33 service. Projected racecourse will make Worsley gridlocked most of the time due to severe congestion

26)             We only have the 26 to Manchester, a direct route which is the most reliable. If I want the catch the 33 I have to connect at Worsley court house and again if I want to come home on the 26 , which is unacceptable when you are an elderly person. The 553 to Walkden is also a terrible service, every hour from Boothstown to Walkden and from Walkden to Boothstown. If you miss one you have to wait for another hour.

27)             No bus service from Newearth Road that meets my needs

28)             I have noticed some drivers using their mobile phone while driving. I witnessed one case where an elderly man fell over when the driver rushed to get to the next stop. Other problems include kids playing loud music and drinking on the bus. There should be signs to say no food, no drinks. These were on the 36 and 39 but mainly 36 route. I find that if I drive by car it works out cheaper than using the bus. £3.50 is a lot of money to use the bus for one day but we (the public) have no other choice. Five years ago bus fairs were at least £2 for a day saver. Fairs need to be cheaper to get more people interested in public transport.

29)             the loss of the 35 bus has made travelling to my relatives in Boothstown more difficult. I would prefer to travel by bus but there is a 20 min walk to Swinton church for the 26 which is not always reliable

30)             Buses aren't electric scooter friendly

31)             Speeding Impatient drivers especially taxis

32)             No direct route from Houghton lane Swinton to Chaseley road, Eccles old road, Salford

33)             Information on changes does not come through quickly enough

34)             I miss the number 35 service. It was a useful service along Moorside Road to Swinton and Salford City shopping

35)             553 now hourly but sometimes 2 hourly 26 to Leigh and Manchester (sometimes doesn't turn up so every hour instead of half hour)

36)             Road Works Traffic Jams

37)             Need more buses along East Lancs and after 9

38)             2 services to Leigh passing Moorside 35 Discontinued No direct service to Bolton

39)             26 to Leigh 484 each way

40)             26 - Incorrect tickets needs driver education 553 - hourly terrible route

41)             553 dreadful and only 1 bus per hour

42)             Bus to Walkden either late or full. Trying to get into traffic from Simpson Road to Walkden every morning between 7.30 and 8.30am

43)             Going to MRI. The 33 used to go to Piccadilly Gardens, connecting to buses going to MRI and Dental Hospital. (picking up the bus in Boothstown)

44)             Taking the number 12 bus to Bolton out of service was disastrous. Now have to walk to Greenleach Lane. Returning from Bolton by bus is now a nightmare!

45)             my only problem is the 553 Bolton to Boothstown but it is the only bus that goes from Bolton to Boothstown. the alternative is get a taxi from Walkden to Boothstown and then the 37 to Bolton

46)             not many buses to Boothstown area

47)             we could do with more buses on the Worsley Rd. route now restricted to one bus 12 from M/C. 26 longer way and buses after late due to build up of traffic from town. 484 only one an hour as this takes us to Hope hospital should be more frequent. service bad

48)             as a pensioner living on mort lane next to sale lane I am very pleased that the no.12 was rerouted to run via mort lane to Little Hulton district centre and also that the no.32 was saved. I do drive but would rather use the bus if one is available as I find parking can be a problem and also very expensive.

49)             buses once an hour not turning up. using taxis to go to Hopsital and doctor's and dentist. expensive for pensioners. Public transport is rubbish

50)             buses continuously late or missing completely -26,32 in the past have waited 2 hours for buses when travelling to Leigh - 26,553 do not go to Bolton due to lack of service and buses missing from Bolton station

51)             No 12 bus to Walkden does not turn up No 31 to Walkden does not turn up

52)             No 12 doesn't go to Bolton No 33 has stopped during the day through Boothstown to Wigan No 554 doesn't run

53)             length of journey on 554 and not going to Bolton. No 12 not going to Bolton a better service is needed Walkden Rd - 580 to Manchester and Bolton Bus terminal in Piccadilly too far out

54)             the 553 is every hour and sometimes doesn't turn up. last year i was waiting in Walkden with 5 shopping bags from Tesco and the 4.50pm bus didn't turn up and the next one came at 6.05pm. I rely on public transport because I can't always afford a taxi home. Also the no33 bus from Wigan to Manchester has stopped so I can't go to hope hospital, Eccles precinct and Wigan town centre during the day

55)             if I use the bus service to work it takes 2hrs/day one journey. I also have to walk from home to Monton. Once in Warrington I would have to catch a farther bus to by place of work. PARK & RIDE WOULD BE A GOOD INVESTMENT!!!

56)             It would be appreciated by many people if the No 35 bus was reintroduced along Worsley Rd and Moorside Rd

57)             I am a disable pensioner who owns a car but due to my disability I am forced to use public transport which I find does not cover the local area adequately. I would love to be able to give up driving but due to the bad services this is impossible

58)             No 12 taken off Mosley Common. Going down Mort Lane now. should be 12 every half hr to Little Hulton with a 12X going Mosley Common way. but to Boothstown for DRS. The 33 bus should be back can't get to Hope hospital have to go to M/C on 32 then catch 33 out to Hope

59)             the loss of the 33 through Astley has affected the way I travel to my daughter's. The change in the 553 means that people in Boothstown will tend to go to Leigh for shopping resulting in Walkden becoming deserted. why can't the 553 pick up and drop off people when it is doing the loop up Mosley common road and Chaddock Lane?

60)             the 553 used to go through Farnworth and to the lower shopping are of Bolton could shop at Asda and carpet right and pet shop get off the bus and get to the market hall not such a long walk as there is now

61)             bus to Trafford has been cancelled Boothstown - Roe Green (no bus route)

62)             the no.12 has recently changed its destination from Bolton bus station to Leigh. I live on Clovelly road and I regularly used to take my grandmother to Bolton from Moorfield. I am appalled that there is now the 26 and 12 service both travelling to Leigh. I can only presume that I am expected to walk to Swinton town hall to get the bus to Bolton. this is impossible as my grandmother is not able-bodied. it is unacceptable.

63)             I go to Hope hospital twice a month and waiting for connections at Worsley Court House is terrible. Twice I have stood in pouring rain

64)             no.35 being cancelled no.33 making access unavailable to Eccles during day and as an alternative to no.26 which frequently goes missing or arrives overcrowded where one has to stand the whole journey to and from Manchester. In one week I spent approx 10hours waiting for buses which either didn't turn up or came extremely late making me miss important work appointments and completely throwing my schedule for the day

65)             as a car driver it is obvious that Children being taken to school by car is the main reason for long delays and congestion on the East Lancs Rd (A580) and Worsley Rd. as there is nowhere near the problem during school holidays.

66)             for the last 37 years I have had to rely on the no.12 bus. It has let me down on numerous occasions and sometimes not arrived at all. Now that evening services are drastically reduced I cannot go out in the evenings. I was not informed of the changes and ended up at Walkden at 6pm - I had to go to Tesco and find a taxi from there. This at the end of a long day in hospital which began at 9am

67)             lack of local shops forces us to shop at supermarkets - no bank or post office within walking distance

68)             you need to review the buses coming onto Chaddock Lane. Now we have no transport to Walkden, and also look at other buses coming through Boothstown. The only reliable bus now is 126 Trafford Centre

69)             553 Boothstown to Bolton (every hour unreliable service). from Boothstown the doctors surgery moved to Ellenbrook village centre we have one bus every hour (not good for sick people). The only bus remaining through is a no26 every half hour and Trafford bus very annoying when in Walkden no36 and 37 (seem to be breeding)

70)             I am a disabled lady in a wheelchair, so I can only get about by taxis or by friends/relations' car because of buses I cannot get on. But if I could use buses then I would travel in the above way. I have used R/R etc but find they are not reliable

71)             I use the buses everyday I used to go to Bolton on the 553 but it was taken off from Astley. If you get to Boothstown you can get the 553 at one bus stop or it doesn't come at all like it used to and that's every hour if it comes so I cannot take my mum to Tesco or my dog to the vets. I also used to get the 33 bus from Astley to Wigan but you have taken that bus off. the bus company puts a 33 service on a Sunday but what use is that?

72)             schools on Worsley Road cause a lot of travel problems because parents will not walk

73)             Cutting bus service 35 and directing bus 12 to Leigh is not a good idea. Now, no direct service to Bolton. Expecting people to travel on buses and cutting services "not a good idea"

74)             Difficult to reach Bolton now 12 route has changed. buses to Manchester too infrequent (26 most direct but not frequent enough). 464 infrequent and unreliable - though only local routes bus e.g.; Swinton, Eccles, hope hospital.

75)             use of car as I am unable to walk very well

76)             being physically disabled I cannot access the train station at Walkden because I cannot physically get up the steep steps or board the train as it is very high up from the train onto the platform and vice versa. No ramp in place at this station. I cannot use my mobility scooter to get there as there is no place to park.

77)             very little direct bus services to Swinton. No direct service i.e.; no12 to Bolton. as regards bus travel, Worsley road Swinton seems to be a forgotten area

78)             12 - 26 sometimes late - should be more frequent weekends

79)             in my area we have no banks or post office so it is essential to travel by bus, which isn't easy when the bus fails to turn up

80)             volume of traffic in Boothstown

81)             I use my car for my work. Congestion charge would make it very expensive. I do use the bus occasionally to go shopping in Manchester (no12). I need a car to visit relatives as bus journey/train would cost too much, take too long and be very uncomfortable.

82)             coming back from Walkden on 553, made to get off at Simpson road when bus is coming up Mosley common road to go down east Lancs. why can't we get off at remand home?

83)             the 484 to get to hope hospital or eccles. You wait and wait and it doesn't turn up. The same at Swinton - you wait at St Peter's Church there is so many 36-37

84)             484 to Swinton

85)             I had an appointment at the doctors 4.30pm went up to Walkden on 553 out of doctors 5.10pm. Had to wait until 6.10pm for a bus to Boothstown, home 6.20pm. Hope hospital 11th June - got on 33 bus empty, the bus picked up about 5 passengers. took 1 hour to get to hospital during journey I saw two 33 buses with no passengers on at all. Another 1 hour to get back to Boothstown. I think the 553 route is wrong, I have used this bus a few times and noticed when the bus turns around at Walkden on quite a few occasions the bus has not picked up any passengers from Walkden until they get to the route from Four Lane ends, where I have noticed a quite a few other buses run on the route from there. I like to go to ASDA at Farnworth but can't walk and carry shopping from the no37 then have to wait again for the 553. I have an older sister (not well) to get to her she lives in Atherton. I have to get the 26 bus into Leigh then the 582 to Atherton. I think it should be understood that in Boothstown we have no supermarket, greengrocer, butcher, or fishmonger so we have to travel to do any shopping at all.

86)             I consider most congestion in the Boothstown area is caused by the school run i.e.; parents taking their children to school short distances and the tre traffic taking the route to the motorway junction at Worsley otherwise its not a major problem in the area. I am totally against the alleged congestion charge it is only a mileage charge and the monies will ultimately be used to subsidise government general expenditure its a con trick

87)             553 to Bolton the new route is not convenient for Farnworth or Asda at the old football ground. it also does not pick up many passengers until almost in Bolton where they seem to have other buses on their route. the 33 should start at Boothstown which is the Salford boundary

88)             would use more buses if there were any - the 26 service which passes the end of our road is so infrequent as to be useless. Have used park and ride at Eccles to get to Metrolink but there are no buses to Eccles so this route is unfeasible without use of a car

89)             12 and 26 can be very unreliable in running to timetables and are not an alternative at night

90)             26 and 12 - one per hour off peak

91)             missing buses; buses displaying 'not in service'

92)             553 to Bolton - i have to walk three bus stops to catch this bus yet it drives past our bus stop to turn round back to Simpson Road 33 - now you have to catch the 26 to connect to the 33 to get to hope hospital which is a regular trip for myself

93)             as so many bus services in the area have been discontinued it make sit increasingly difficult to use public transport

94)             The overall bus service in Boothstown is rubbish. Too few buses

95)             Terrible congestion from Walkden through Worsley every morning. This causes me to miss church services and doctors appointment. The problem is in reverse in the evenings. If the racecourse comes it will be gridlock for the whole area

96)             I need to use my car for health reasons and try only go out after rush hour and back here again before evening rush hour

97)             school runs - its so much easier during summer holidays

98)             Leigh Rd Boothstown blocked with traffic every day 7.30am to 9.30am trying to get to junction 13 and motorway

99)             some buses are extremely uncomfortable with poor quality seats and very poor suspension - generally uncomfortable and unpleasant to use. Unable to get to hope hospital from roe green without changing bus 3 times

100)          Getting out of Ashley Drive Swinton onto Worsley Road heading towards A580. Travelling along east Lancs A580 towards Manchester - slow traffic

101)          I do not use public transport. If I did, I would never get to work and back. the only problems I encounter are ridiculous bus lanes and even more ridiculous 'traffic calming' measures that add to congestion and pollution

102)          484 to Prestwich in Swinton is too slow

103)          generally I never make the same journey despite going to the Swinton town centre, often I always call somewhere else on the way there or back

104)          a problem in the waiting, a possible racecourse in Worsley. This will be a disaster if the no13 exit is used. Access needs to be direct off the M62 or A580

105)          I have found the bus services between Worsley and Walkden, Eccles or Manchester to be quite good using the 68 or 33. being retired we are able to avoid the rush hour for car journeys and don't have much trouble

106)          bus lanes are a problem you will not force people onto public transport - bus lanes cause congestion by restricting road width

107)          bus services running late or occasionally not turning up. As a car driver traffic congestion in peak period and Roadworks etc...

108)          whilst waiting for return bus from Walkden, failure by driver to stop when I was waiting alone (no68) our one and only bus from Walkden to Worsley church. Now that the 26 service has been altered, I have been forced to walk from Broadoak garden centre all the way home with a bleeding gum having left the dentist and missed the half-hourly bus. Now no 35 or alternative

109)          no direct bus to Bolton means taking two buses. the same applies to Salford precinct, unable to go to either now. no shops in this area, only Tesco in Walkden. A few shops in Swinton, too far to walk to Morrisons. have sent numerous letters re: cancellation of no.12, 35, 554. No satisfaction. Free pass no use, would rather pay as before. Pay large council tax, transport get good subsidy from council, where does that money go? not in this area, 36/37/39 every few minutes

110)          do not feel safe on buses, our last experience was a nightmare -they set off before you are seated and you are lucky if you don't get injured

111)          having given up car transport i use a bus and train travel to North Wales and Norwich on a regular basis

112)          the buses to Manchester are too infrequent along Worsley road - 12,26 The bus to hope hospital along Moorside road is so infrequent that it is not worth using

113)          The Ellenbrook road/Newearth road junction should have used the available space to allow left turning and right turning independence. Currently the queues are unnecessarily long. Before too long a mini-roundabout or traffic lights will become necessary.

114)          this survey has come when they have recently cancelled some buses through Boothstown and come up with congestion charging and is the equivalent to political dynamite! buses cancelled 35 and 33 buses rerouted 553 and 33

115)          Now no 33 through Boothstown very dangerous crossing at Worsley. unable to meet friends in Tyldesley no 35 route. Unsure which bus stop to use for 553 also used to be able to use this bus to visit my son at hill top, Walkden. Now no direct route through Walkden

116)          I live off Worsley road and work in Pendleton. It is taking up to 20min to get onto A580. I have lived in Worsley for 30yrs, Worsley road is becoming a nightmare

117)          Boothstown services now minimal. They need to be more frequent and also dependable

118)          We always go into Manchester by bus however the no.35 was taken off, the no.33 does not serve Boothstown during the day, putting Eccles out of reach. The no.26 service was reduced in recent years from 3 or 4 an hour to ever half hour

119)          We need an INTEGRATED transport system so that journeys can combine bus, train and tram

120)          26 service now being reduced to MINIMUM 30 min frequency, 1 hour in the evenings. Most of the vehicles being used have been changed to old stock. These are cramped and uncomfortable. The evening services are often cancelled or just fail to appear, the 7pm from Manchester to Boothstown is a common 'lost' bus. Regularly the service is on average 18 mins late. The 32 and 34 services do not run late into the evening. The 32 and 34 services used to be express services only serving limited stops up to the M60 now they stop at any stop through Salford(which are already served by a multitude of services out of Manchester). There are no direct services to the following places from Walkden - Wigan, Walkden railway station, Eccles, Bolton.

121)          553 no longer runs through Astley to Bolton during the day direct bus to royal Bolton hospital doesn't start early enough to get to hospital for 8am so I have 4 buses to get to work. Cannot get to Farnworth or Walkden (a very short distance away) without catching multiple buses. 36 doesn't turn up sometimes at 7.26am

122)          26 not turning up. Problems changing buses at Walkden and Worsley

123)          26 not turning up, problems changing buses to get to hospital

124)          Getting home from work 5pm, 26/32/34 bus often full. Sometimes it takes 1 and a half hours to get home - standing all the way

125)          553 where from in Boothstown 33 no service

126)          Train service is poor - lived in Whitefiled prior to Worsley and extensively used the Metrolink. Local trains are infrequent, expensive and unsafe

127)          No.12 taken off Bolton route, 554 taken off Trafford/Eccles route from Greenleach Lane

128)          A £5/day charge would be a most unwelcome tax

129)          12 used to be convenient. Many elderly people inconvenienced. Houghton Lane stop. Bolton on 22, Dales Brow stop, 1 and a half hours. Never again.

130)          Regular problems with 33, 26, 553. Routes always changing and irregular.

131)          Route 12 doesn't go to Bolton. Bus to Farnworth not available as a direct service.

132)          When 33 was taken off it has severely restricted my travel in the area. It has made the journey to hospital very inconvenient.

133)          Unreliable bus services mean that I always use my car as my day runs to a tight schedule and I can not be late

134)          33 move to Worsley Court house causes problems when getting to work in Eccles. Dangerous to cross the road. Timings of 26 and 33 don't always match up. 70p twice in morning compared to 50p a couple of months ago (concession 68

135)          I miss getting the 33 which does not come my way. Also the 553 to Bolton.

136)          No bus available daily on Sundays from Leigh to Leigh infirmary. I was told there is one when I rang bus timetable information. Sometimes drivers go to the wrong stop eg 33 Sun 6 May from Chaddock Lane Mosley Common to Stott Lane Salford forcing me to walk back in the pouring rain

137)          Having to change from 26 to 33 to get to Eccles is difficult. Crossing a busy road with shopping from the 33 to 26 back to Boothstown at Worsley court house is dangerous.

138)          buses cut in last year Manchester via Weaste, Tyldesley, Bolton, Leigh. I use my car more than in the last 10 yrs. Late evenings getting back from Manchester

139)          12 to Bolton 484 Moorside to Swinton is every hour and is late or doesn't turn up

140)          If congestion charging is introduced only the wealthy will be able to travel

141)          My son can now only use the 26 to get to work in Astley. Hope Hospital and Trafford/Stretford is impossible to get to using the bus and trains. We are now designated a bus route as the bus service regularly park on Leigh Road, with engines running as early as 6am in the morning. Difficult to sleep through

142)          As already stated to get to Bolton have to travel first to Swinton. As an elderly person this can cause problems.

143)          Since the 33 bus on Chaddock Lane was taken off it is more difficult to get to Hope Hospital (which we have to attend every 3 months). Also to Eccles to use the Metro.

144)          We are blue badge holders. Standing at bus stops, waiting for transport that fails to turn up lost it's appeal some time ago.

145)          As a pensioner and having travelled to Bolton on the 12 bus as long as I can remember I now have 2 buses - changing at either Swinton or Walkden. This is disgraceful.

146)          553 and 33

147)          The 484 which I use often would be much better every half hour instead of hourly and we all miss the no 12 going to Bolton along Worsley Road, The 26 would be better redirected up Moorside Rd

148)          I hope to be back using public transport if there is a reliable service in the Moorside area

149)          Parking costs and availability of parking in Manchester

150)          On the 26 route into Manchester last year the driver did not go into Piccadilly which is where I needed to alight. He drove straight on. I thought he was making a detour and it was about 1/2 mile away when I asked hm was h going to Picadilly. He said no he was going for his lunch. 2 or 3 other passengers were also involved.

151)          The 26 is always late or never turns up. The 33 now starts from Worsley instead of going through Boothstown which now means you have to get two buses to Eccles. They say it's because of congestion but this is wrong. A couple of buses through Boothstown won't make any difference. I've been told the trams are stopping running to Eccles for a few months for Maintenance. This is why the 33 is now running every quarter of an hour instead of half an hour, once again it's money not service for passengers.

152)          484, 12, 26 There is usually one of each number missing every day

153)          553 hourly bus 33 which only starts at Worsley Court House so I would need 2 buses to dentist and hospital

154)          26 - Still only 2 an hour even though the 33 has been taken off, always full 553 One an hour. Takes forever to go to Bolton, goes all round the houses, should be at least 2 an hour. 33 Should go through Boothstown again. People need to get to Hope Hospital. Need 2 buses now.

155)          Bus 33 stopped going though Boothstown. Journey to Hope Hospital / Eccles impossible without changing buses. Bus no 553 to Bolton, one an hour takes forever to get there. Bus no 553 to Ellenbrook Medical Centre on an hour, so appointment could be too early or too late

156)          33 not going from Boothstown anymore, hospital visits a nightmare - 2 buses to get, busy road(Worsley Court House to cross) 553 1 an hour, doctors at Ellenbrook, appointment got to coincide with bus times - if it comes, would consider walking but East Lancs road a death trap. Tried to cross 3 times this year and nearly got killed each time. No consideration for pedestrians. No 26 should be 3 an hour instead of 2 to make up for loss of 33

157)          26 bus should run every 15 mins from 7am to 9am and from 5pm until 6.30pm for commuters. I'm a nurse at RMCH. I work nights only and finish my shift at 7.30am. There is no bus until 8.09am. I arrive in Boothstown about 8.40am - 1hr and 10 mins after finishing my shift. No buses fr Saturday and Sunday. They start after 9am. I use a taxi.

158)          Buses would have to be a lot more regular and reliable to make me even consider swapping from the car

159)          553 Bolton only services half of Boothstown No First bus crosses the busy A580 East Lancs junction with Mosley Common Road with no pedestrian crossing

160)          The no 12 no longer goes to Bolton. In my view a far greater use of the rail network needs to be utilised. This would be more expensive but paramount in tackling congestion.

161)          12 - Very unreliable we sometime have to wait 1 1/2 hours between buses and because you no longer go to Bolton now we have to go to Manchester  Road to get the 37. It is taking me a minimum of 3 hours to get to Bolton Market and back. Add to this the difficulty of getting on and off buses (4 each time) it is now practically impossible. 35 bus to Swinton and Salford precinct taken off al together 554 no longer comes along Greenleach Lane and Worsley Road so we can't get to Eccles or Farnworth. 26 reduced to half hour service. Hopeless for Boothstown, Atherton etc. There are 40 flats here for elderly people and the buses are so bad, particularly in bad weather, that we have been made practically prisoners in our own flats.

162)          Buses never on time or even show up. Trains from Moorside only every hour to Manchester.

163)          Swinton at to a lesser extent other areas have been developed without sufficient consideration being given to the cumulative effects on travel

164)          My one complaint is taking the 35 Manchester to Leigh off. There is only one service in Moorside Road. The 484 is fairly reliable but it is only an hourly service. I would also like to see the 12 service revert back to Manchester to Bolton

165)          Due to infirmity bus travel is difficult

166)          We would all benefit if no 12 went to Bolton again We would like the no 12 to be every 15-20 mins

167)          26 553 frequency

168)          Bus services infrequent and very unreliable. Have been stranded in Walkden on Winter evenings.

169)          I am elderly and 87 years old so rely on my daughter to take me shopping. I used to use the number 12 bus to go to Bolton or Manchester but this service has been taken off.

170)          I am disabled, unable to walk far so my car is essential to me. However I might consider the bus if it took me near enough to my destination. The no12 service was helpful but no longer runs to Bolton.

171)          Total grid lock because of school runs. Motorway problems have a knock on effect on usually ok East Lancs Road. Also, why is there no Metrolink in Boothstown?

172)          I used to use buses. However the service in this area to anywhere is, and has been for years, unreliable, infrequent, and fragmented. So now I drive myself and sometimes take passengers. i would use buses (being a pensioner) if the services where reliable, more frequent, and would get me to where I want to go without having to change. If there is a shortage of drivers or buses the services in this area are always cut.

173)          I have walking difficulties and the last bus I caught last ear I couldn't without help get up the steps and alight from the vehicle and he set off before I had sat down and I fell over people till I reached an available seat which is my main reason for not using buses. I have to attend Hope Hospital frequently and because of lack of buses through Boothstown and connections from Worsley Courthouse, I would never get there relying on public transport the way it is. Because of the lack of bus services in Boothstown I find it would be impossible to get to where I need to go when I have to go, eg appointments

174)          Car to work Manchester Newton Heath 1.5-2hrs by bus or 30mins by car A580 East Lancs Road in Gridlock at 0800. I now go to work at 0700 with no problem.

175)          26 route is very unreliable during the day. Some cars in the rush hour using the road around the green to gain easier and quicker access to the motorway. One person was knocked down last week and injured by one of these cars.

176)          26-Not often enough (every 30 mins) to Shude Hill. Ought to be Piccadilly 33-Sarts and ends at Worsley. Needed to get to Hope Hospital. No safe crossings for son who is disabled with epilepsy. 34 - A580 has no safe crossing so can't access this bus. 32 - A580 has no safe crossing so can't access this bus. Also to far to walk for bus service. No evening buses - last 26 at 11:00. When will we get evening bus?

177)          The main car problem is the school run. Whenever schools are on holiday the congestion is not there. The constant errosion of the bus services through Boothstown makes the consideration of their use non existant. Congestion / road pricing is not the answer. The overpricing of fuel has seen no reduction in the use of the car so road pricing will have little or no effect on congestion. However, a country wide restriction on the size of commercial vehicles will.

178)          The 35 service has been discontinued so the 26 route now goes through Swinton and the 33 no longer goes through Boothstown. This means everyone uses the 26 which causes it to arrive late so at Worsley Court House where I now pick up the 33 I miss my connection.

179)          Buses do not go direct to my work. I can't rely on buses. I can't carry shopping on buses.

180)          No 26 can be late, absent or full. On two occasions the 26 from Mcr has not arrived, causing a wait of nearly an hour and 1 and a half hours on a Sunday. The last bus from Manchester at 23.15 did not arrive until 23.35. Very worrying. Taxi fare of £20 was paid on one occasion.

181)          From my point of view, it was a mistake for th 12 bus to go to Leigh, instead of Bolton. As it is, to get to Bolton I would need to go to Walkden and then change buses. The return journey could involve waiting almost 30 mins for the connection. We already have a bus service to Leigh.

182)          Poor state of roads Road works - too often repeated on same stretch

183)          Unruly teenagers

184)          No 12 service now goes to Leigh instead of Bolton which is inconvenient. The 554 which did travel via Roe Green has been discontinued. What is the point of bus passes when there is not a bus

185)          no 12 not reliable. Not frequent. Doesn't now go to Bolton where I frequently shop. Junction 13 - too many slip roads onto this road. Why is one slip road closed off near court house? One could be for M602/M6 other M60 M56

186)          Since the 33 bus no longer serves Chaddock Lane Boothstown during the day, to get to Hope Hospital I have to catch the 26 to Worsley. I then have to cross a very busy road to catch the 33. This to me is an accident waiting to happen. Also the 553 bus comes down Chaddock Lane during the day but is not allowed to pick passengers up until he gets to Simpson Road - by passing 2 bus stops.

187)          Severe congestion on Leigh Road in rush hour Severe congestion on A580. Need to allow at least an hour to get to Manchester in rush hour

188)          Bus services in Boothstown is worse than useless and never on time. Public transport is not nearly good enough to introduce a congestion charge as most people have no choice but to use their car. As a car driver hold ups on Leigh Rd in mornings. Have to leave at 6.30 to miss this

189)          553 to Bolton supposed to go past post office and up part Methodist chapel but still sometimes goes left at post office and waits at Top Chippy so people waiting near dentist miss the bus. Bus goes along Chaddock Lane but will not pick up or drop passengers. Heavy shopping has to be carried from post office to Queen's Arms because 26 has usually just gone when 553 reaches the village. 26 and 126 go through Boothstown to Leigh at the same time (half past the hour) nb 126 brilliantly reliable

190)          Our shopping precinct provides us with estate agent, dry cleaner, chemist, barber, hairdresser, wine shop, wedding shop, solicitor and restaurant. We have to use buses at all times Morrisons, Wilkinsons and Aldi are difficult to get to as you have to change buses as you can imagine this is very difficult with three bags of shopping for a lot of people like me in Boothstown who are over 80 with no relatives living close by

191)          I am 87 and cannot travel by public transport. I am obliged to use my family and their cars otherwise I would never get out. Please consider this when imposing congestion charges

192)          Mosley Common - no service on Sundays

193)          I am very unhappy that I now have less choice in the route I want to take. The rerouting of the no26 in particular, on the return journey from Manchester it has sometimes taken 1 and a half hours due to bus being unable to turn from Partington Lane onto Worsley Road. Also the journey into Bolton takes too long and it is inconvenient to go to the bus station instead of Great Moor Street

194)          As my wife does not drive, the limited bus options available in Boothstown make her dependent on my ability to take her. If I become unable to drive we will be forced to move out of the area.

195)          The 553 from Leigh to Bolton is a Harrowing bus ride as I suffer from Osteoporosis and find the long ride uncomfortable. Why the route changed I don't know. To get to Farnworth which I used to go regular, I now find the journey and have to take 2 buses which is difficult.

196)          My husband and I are both waiting for appointments at Hope Hospital, and it's not always possible to use the car, so the 33 bus to Eccles and Mcr takes us right near. We could get it at Worsley as it's been rerouted but as we are in our late seventies it's a bit of a bind.

197)          My daughter and husband, who live in Westhoughton, decided to go to a sho in Manchester one evening. They parked their car in Walkden and went into the station where they were surprised to see the platform full. When the train came in it was also full and not one passenger could get on. as a result everyone left the station and presumably returned to their cars or caught on a bus. My daughter and her husband drove into Manchester and managed to get a parking place there. I have had to stand on a packed coach on the train from Manchester at around 5-5.20pm. It's a great pity extra coaches can't be provided.

198)          Since the route of the 553 bus has been altered we now have to get a bus once an hour to Walkden, then change to 37 to be able to get to Farnworth return journey difficult due to the hourly service from Walkden to Ellenbrook

199)          553 Boothstown to Walkden. as all our facilities eg Drs dentist, clinic, bank, are in Walkden, only having an hourly service is very restricting. A visit to the dr for example can take up to 3 hrs. 33 is no longer a convenient service for hope Hospital for Boothstown residents.

200)          Bolton

201)          I find buses dirty, inconvenient, inefficient, unreliable and slow. My personal safety and well being are threatened on public transport particularly after 6pm.

202)          I like to go to church but cannot get a bus to St Andrews Boothstown, since 35 stopped running, if I do go to Boothstown. I have to go to the Queens Arms to get the 26 Bus, which is very inconvenient as I am 86 years old and my only means of getting out is by bus. I have lived in Boothstown all my life, now I live in sheltered housing I have difficulty in going to see my friends in Boothstown.

203)          26 Several instances of buses failing to run. 33 Terminating at Worsley and there being no other service through Boothstown, to Tyldesley, Atherton, and Wigan. also confusion as to where it is turning at Worsley. 553 Hourly service causing difficulties and the re routing causes problems geeing to Farnworth

204)          33 to Eccles. No direct service. Have to change buses at Worsley. I'm a regular visitor to Hope Hospital but now have to go on two buses which at times is very inconvenient

205)          Yes with GM buses and public transport in the past years

206)          Think the building of a race course would bring traffic in Boothstown / Worsley Village to standstill. Delays on M60 because of accidents on an almost daily basis at present. Tailbacks down Barton Road moving at snails pace.

207)          No direct buses to go to Bolton on Salford shopping precinct from Worsley. They are both the only good shopping areas from Worsley.

208)          My wife is disabled and unable to use public transport. We have a motobility car. I would obviously consider paying to use roads. Totally unacceptable as we have no other option.

209)          No viable public transport option such as trams. Would use these if availabl.

210)          Unreliable 553

211)          If congestion charging is introduced I will go to a different place. When I have tried to use a bus it has been unreliable (buses not turning up) and have then been forced to tet a taxi. (no 26) Buses are few and far betweeen. Buses don't return from Trafford Centre in the evening.

212)          half hourly service 12 that regularly does not turn up. Saturday nights going to Manchester. Withdrawal of no 554 to Trafford Centre. Now go by car.

213)          Why are there two buses going to Leigh? 12 and 26? The 12 bus to Bolton is sorely missed. Going from Manchester and travelling down Worsley Road, Swinton through Roe Green and Walkden.

214)          The 26 Manchester now puts double deckers on this service which is not wheel chair friendly as advertised. We have no service to Tyldesley or Walkden therefore not able to travel by train without using the car. When the bus way is introduced we in Boothstown cannot get to use it without part use of car, when we opposed this service we were told we could connect using the 551/3 which is no longer available. Public transport is a disgrace. I will continue to use my car. I did complain to GMPTE and was told that nothing could be done as First Manchester runs for profit only.

215)          The loss of the Wigan 33 The loss of the Manchester- Leigh 35

216)          When I have an appointment in Walkden I always go an hour earlier than need to because the no 12 is not very reliable. When I am travelling by train from Piccadilly, I use the 32 or x34 to Manchester on the A580 Old Clough Lane. But it takes a long time for me to cross the road. I have not got a car so I rely in Public Transport.

217)          Mainly congestion - but being retired try to avoid by going at the non peak times Very obvious that a lot of local congestion caused by children being driven to school. in school holidays the roads are a lot quieter.

218)          i cannot understand the bus operators obsession with Leigh as there is very little there to attract visitors from outside Leigh area

219)          Boothstown to Bolton Boothstown to Tyldesley

220)          It now takes 2 buses to get in to Manchester

221)          No 12. Not stopping at Roe Green on way to Walkden. One month ago I had my arm out There were only four on bus. I have witnesses. No 26 not stopping on Worsley Road often happens. Buses taking you to the next stop and we have to walk back. Bad behaviour by school pupils on buses - Harper Fold and St Marys RC Astley.

222)          26 Boothstown - Manchester. Once an hour Sunday is not enough as we sometimes have to stand at 12 o'clock in the da and evening. Only one per hour after 6 not enough and also drivers go wrong way home turning down Blackfriars instead of along Deansgate. 33 Only one route to Manchester stopping at Worsley is not acceptable as the people which have to change and stand waiting for 26 is not acceptable. Also this service should run Saturday to allow people to shop at Eccles.

223)          Buses often come one after another, 12, 32, 132, then there is nearly 30 minute wait. On going to Bolton now, having to go all around Shakerley and one way system in Atherton on the 592, or change buses to 582 in Atherton when we normally went on 552 through Walkden and Farnworth, You now have to get 12 and then walk up to Ellesmere Centre to catch 37. Connecting buses do not always connect, time wise. also, buses don't turn up. I think you need more 32s to Mcr at rush hour times as buses are full long before they get to Tyldesley for people who need them for work. The guided busway will be a very expensive mistake. better and more reliable buses are needed. No one will get out of cars when weather is bad to walk further.

224)          553 to Bolton very unreliable missing out Simpson Road bus stop More convenient to go via Farnworth than the new route

225)          Stopped using buses because of unreliability Services 33, 35 taken out of Boothstown 551, 553 to Bolton reduced service and confusion over stops

226)          With the withdrawal of the 33 bus to Hope Hospital. I have had to resort to the car. I would like to talk to somebody about bus service in Boothstown. I would like to talk about transport going to the tip, and the hazards it causes as it passes through Boothstown.

227)          Bus 26 - Sat 16th June, bus to Manchester 18.16 Bus missing. Had to wait for 30mins for next bus. Return journey also delayed. 553 bus, no sure where to catch this bus now. All in all the bus service from Boothstown to Manchester has deteriorated greatly in the last 12 months.

228)          Buses overcrowded during rush hour. Having to stand all the way from Piccadilly to Boothstown. Buses late early morning, not turning up at all. Drivers getting lost and unfamiliar with Manchester city centre.

229)          Concern has grown in Roe Green regarding the change of destination for the number 12 bus. It now goes to Leigh instead of Bolton. There is now no direct service to Bolton and this has caused great inconvenience to many Roe Green residents, particularly older people.

230)          The bus no 12 is not reliable

231)          Congestion charging is wrong as only poor people are affected. Rich people will continue to drive whatever the charge. Only less wealthy people will be priced off the road which is morally repugnant.

232)          The no26 is never on time at rush hour. Since the withdrawal of the 33 it is always full. I have tried getting the 8.30 26 instead of the 9.15 but this is still late and I am still late for work. A gap of 45 minutes at rush hour is ridiculous.
